How To: Body Composition Scan

The unknown is scary. Medical technology is also scary. Let's break it down and make it easy.

Dr. Sparks checking his height
That’s right, Dr. Sparks tells everyone he is 6 foot and look at that!

Step 1:

We'll get your height. We wont tell your friends if it is different than your driver's license.

Step 2:

We'll use the magic wipe to prepare. It really isn't all that special, it just helps the small electrical signal work better to ensure the most accurate data. You'll use this wipe to wet the palms of your hands and the soles of your feet.

Step 3:

Let's get your total body weight. You'll step on the scale and stand still.

Step 4:

We'll enter some simple information on the machine including height, age, gender.

Step 5:

We'll assume the position! We get it, it is a bit of an awkward position to try and stand still in, but it is only for a brief time. We'll make sure that your arms are straight but not touching your sides. You'll hold on to the handle bars and the machine will get to collecting data! There may or may not be elevator music for you to enjoy at this step.

Step 6:

Test complete! You'll put your shoes and socks back on while we wait for the printer to give us all the details!

Step 7:

We'll sit down and review your results and come up with a game plan to reach your goals! Regardless of what the results sheet shows, the most important thing is that we’ve taken the first step at getting to the healthiest you!

Next Steps:

You’ll work on implementing your change and we’ll see you back in a few weeks to track your progress. We won’t be tracking BMI; we’ll be following how much fatty tissue mass you are losing and how much muscle mass you are gaining! Repeat follow up scans will allow us to understand how your change is impacting your body composition.

Are you ready to find out your composition? Have more questions first? If you’re a current patient, just text or email your physician to get started. There is no charge for current patients; just another perk of DPC and our focus on prevention and your overall health!

If you are not a current patient, give our office a call to get scheduled and to find out current pricing of non-member composition scanning. Better yet, join our Direct Primary Care practice and Dr. Sparks will reach out to get you scheduled for a first visit and body composition scan!
